The Band :: Funky Duncan (Ex-band Member - was Bass)
Duncan is multi instrumental player who, since his first performance in a band situation in the church of scotland(!) at the age of 15, has played in a diverse range of musical settings including orchestral, theatre, punk rock, blues and drum n bass. Then, in 1999 a strange and unearthly force, that has come to be known as The Funk, brought Duncan into a 10 piece funk soul monster known as 'Flipside' that brought booty shaking grooves to Newcastle and beyond. This experience galvanised his commitment to the bass as first instrument, and inspired an insatiable lust for funky grooves and ass shaking beats.
This compulsion led Duncan to discover his main influences, from old school funk like Graham Central Station, Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Parliament, through to newer acts such as The Brand New Heavies. Along the way, it was inevitable Duncan would discover the music of Prince.
Having gigged in Leeds over the last few years with bands 'Purple Desire', 'Sams Thang' and 'Chichino', 'Endorphinmachine' now gives Dunc the fantastic and challenging opportunity to replicate and be inspired by some of the greatest bass players ever recorded, including Rhonda Smith and The Man himself, Larry Graham. Dunc also writes and produces original material in collaboration with Sam, and is recording bass for a Leeds based Ambient / House record label.
